Hong Kong students protest in MTR station Central (2017)

The significance of the year 1989 is self-evident. For those who laugh it off just because it is something in the past, STUDY!

If anyone said June 4th has nothing to do with Hong Kong’s democratic movement, they are either ignorant or utterly selfish. And you would trust your political future on them?

Although this piece is written out of certain notions that dismisses the importance of June 4th massacre, I do not intent to lobby against them. Rather, this serves as a recollection of what the younger generation decided to honour this moment of political enlightenment for Hong Kong people.

For my generation, there is no direct emotional turmoil that our past generations experienced. Yet, it is really not about whether one has experienced something traumatic to be able to react to it. It is about being able to understand yourself better through recognising and identifying with the oppressed ancestries.

June forth is a ray of hope. It was a misery and a failure of course, yet misery was not what the youths were looking for.
